A Step Ahead

That's what I emphasized during my short speech on stage before calling names, handing certificates, and shaking my students' hands one last time before watching them walk out of my classroom and into the rest of their ed careers.

7.24.2008

Similar to Wall-e's "get home" routine...

Take all the stuff out of my pockets, change my clothes, etc, etc...

The 'get home' routine after work.

One last time tomorrow before I retire it for an ENTIRE month! Wooo!

7.23.2008

Gotham City

Walking onto the nighttime streets of SF after Dark Knight on imax felt like entering Gotham City. Beautiful.

7.22.2008

No longer a bopper!

Yay for April on her July Bday! Though there were other legit postables this day, I can't resist giving tribute to folks on their bdays. Hope it was a happy one!

Something Different

Decided on some colorful shoes. Too red? Thoughts?

Shoulda carried around the cam a lil more... several unphotographables:

1. Breakfast w/ the Guiriba fam
2. Papa Guiriba's 'museum'
3. Joshie's place
4. Night out in the city
5. Nightcapping at LC's

Weekends like this make me feel like I never wanna leave the Bay.

7.18.2008

Field Trippin' @ SJSU

And gettin' hyped for the Olympics.

Hah, my summer students are pretty adorable sometimes.

7.17.2008

Not double fisting, DOUBLE SCREENING

And pushing myself to continue 31 by drawing inspiration from that blog right there.

Wilson

Sometimes April says hi from outside the opened window, sparking up conversation with no expectation for us to open the door for her. Reminds me so much of one character from one tv show....

"Hi dee ho good neighbor!"

7.13.2008

31's Grossest Picture of the Month

Those, my friends, are flies, dead flies. They're dead flies from a recent fly infestation at 2422.

7.12.2008

New Thangs

Steppin' out of the comfort zone. Trying new thangs.

And Happy Bday to mi papa. This has become the Bday blog.

7.11.2008

Beast

Tribute to the uncontrollable beast. Another July Bday. So many!

7.10.2008

Raising every 15

Several good photos from the past few days. It's real tough to just choose just 1!! I was on the brink of posting 2 tonight, but then it'd be verge's 32 and not 31 so f that. It's almost like calling it Ocean's 12 and not 11. Wait a second...

Anyway, I had a nice pic of back-to-school night at Tech (which is a completely diff. blog post in itself - look for it on the edublog soon), and I got a buncha good photos from Frances' killer karoake bday.

I figured out how to take dope night photos! Look out photography world.

7.09.2008

Pad see you? I SEE YOU!

Happy Birthday to the fly young lady I see everyday through my classroom window. I see you right now! You're reading the middle of your computer screen!

7.08.2008

Goin' hard til the sun's gone

(I wanted to capture the essence of Willard in the night-time. But, as you can tell, failed. I don't have dope night-time photography skills like Camille yet. Camille, you need to teach me how to take cool night-time pics on my Canon. It looked good on the screen, but right when I pressed the button, this is what came out.)

ps. Will got a huge (bloody!) gash.
Josh's thighs hurt from shafing.
Rick got scratched in the face.
Paul tweaked an ankle.
I pulled a muscle and taught w/ a (mr) g-limp today.

As Peezy said: this is like basketball sandlot.

7.07.2008

My new toy

The Kensington Presenter

Previously, I used the iClicker prepackaged with macbooks. The thing kept me tethered to the front of the classroom though; no range! I bought a new presenter remote. It came in a the week before Vegas. This thing's got distance! I can walk around the room, interact w/ my students, and control the board in front of the room - all at the same time. This is crucial! It's also got a sweet lazer to point at things (or students). It's definitely got this teach super excite.

7.06.2008

Happy 22 L!

Lisa it's your birthday. Happy birthday Lisa!

Photographs that didn't make the cut today:

1. Picture of traffic on the 101 that delayed me for an hour (FACK!)

2. Picture of motto written on a blackboard at the deli near Lisa's place:

"Life is short. Eat dessert first!!"

Made me feel better about eating those 2 scoops before consuming actual dinner.

7.05.2008

Home Cooking

One of the many reasons why I love to be home. Waking up to the sounds and smells of my Dad cookin' up some morning eats!

7.04.2008

SM4th

What do we do in SM for fun? Chill at houses. Or watch movies. Did all of the above for the 4th.

ps. Don't watch Hancock. It sucks.

Luckily lil bro is a working man now at the theater so I didn't have to pay.

pss. We have an in & out.

July 3 - Field Trippin'

Chaperoned field trips to St. Mary's and UC Berkeley today. Had to rep a Cal hat during the trip. It was fun to chime in during the Cal tour to share my story w/ my students. When at 4.0 hill, a few wanted to roll down but were hesitant. "Mr. G, I'll go if you go." In my head, my reply: "Hell no." My voiced reply: "Howbout if 10 of you do it, I'll do it." Thought there was no way in hell 10 would actually go. Now my arms itch.

7.02.2008

Early Waker

My solution to all the 'outside-work' work (planning, grading, paperwork, etc) I do for teaching is waking early. After school, I normally stay in my classroom getting all I can get done in a few hours. But once I touchdown home, I chill. F work. I don't get back to it til the morning - when it's nice and quiet, while the sun rises, with a nice cup of coffee and no distractions. In addition, I fit in other things like: morning workouts, reading, cleaning, errands I can do from home, etc - those early morning hours (I like to wake around 5a) are the most productive & efficient of my entire day.

7.01.2008

Ballin' Sesh

After 2-3 weeks of poor showings, we're gettin' em goin' once again.
15 folks came out! Full court! Several good runs. Til dark. Now, I'm pooped.
Tuesdays! See you then.
